I want to go makeup free!!! How do I get beautiful glowing skin?!

I remember the days that I’d never dream of leaving the house without makeup. I still have those days from time to time, just not sure if my “fresh faced” look will maintain itself through a busy day of errands and activities. I’m pretty sure I have Oprah to thank for that insecurity. I caught an episode on cosmetics a few years ago, just as I was turning 30 in which she looked directly into the camera (or really it felt like she looked straight into my soul and screamed at me) and said “When you’re over 30 you should never leave the house without your
foundation on, because you think you look good, but you don’t!”
Oprah’s “ah-ha” moment suddenly became my “Oh God” moment!

Fast forward to the real world with 3 kids, a busy career, family and an attempt to maintain a social life.  Who has time to apply makeup on those days where you’re trying desperately to accomplish 47 tasks in a mere 90 minutes?  Not me!  So I decided to set a realistic goal for myself, to be BRAVE and to go “makeup free” on my more causal and comfy days.  In order to do this and to feel confident about it (which is the challenge many women face without makeup) I’ve made it a priority to do routine chemical peels, photofacials, and stick to a medical grade skincare regimen, the benefits of which make my “makeup free” days feel fabulous!

My absolute FAVORITE chemical peel is the VIpeel.  The VIpeel does wonders! Great exfoliation, cellular turnover, minimizes pores, diminishes sun-damage & pigment.  The VIpeel also has a targeted solution to purify blemish prone skin and clear the scars acne leaves behind… I typically do 4 a/year on myself.

Some products I recommend to maintain and further your results are:

mybody Brightamin C, Light the Way, and A Team – to help with minimizing pores, fine lines and wrinkles, lighten dark spots, fight free radicals and reduce signs of aging.

Another skincare line that I’m absolutely in LOVE with is ZO Skin Health.

From this line I recommend the Exfoliating Polish, Brightenex, Retamax & Oclipse Sunscreen + Primer SPF 30 to help exfoliate, even skin tone, minimizes skin redness caused by environmental factors and helps maintain an even and restored skin tone.
As well as helps reverse the signs of aging and aids in the prevention of future damage.

Lights… Camera…. Action!

Lights… Camera…. Action!

These are the words that typically have me breaking my neck trying to catch my favorite celeb, TV show, or trying to sneak a peek somewhere of a fabulously high profile photo shoot. These words EXCITE me, thrill me, and this time, I realize that the show is mine and it’s the night of the premier.  Yes!! Any excuse for red carpet celebrations!

After years of friends and clients pushing me to do it, I’ve decided it’s time for me to write, blog, tell all of my stories, and just plain share the world of Kelley.  For
those of you who know me, you know I am an open book.  I share everything, with everyone. I probably over share but I can’t help it!  As an Aesthetician, I’ve been providing my insight and knowledge of skincare to
clients for over 15 years.  I love SKIN!  I love skincare, products, aesthetics, beauty, fashion, and lifestyle-what the heck, I LOVE WOMEN!!!!  And as a woman, a mom, wife, girlfriend, and even a total stranger to some of you, I can tell you honestly that I am 100% in the know of all that makes a woman feel beautiful, and I can’t wait to share it.  Let’s reiterate the “honesty” part, because I promise you that I will always tell it like it is.  With a smile of course, but from me you will always get the truth, raw and uncensored. J  I guess you could say I am the Chelsea Handler of all things pretty!

Looking back, it is hard to pinpoint exactly where my
obsession with beauty began, but I can certainly make a few guesses.  Rewind to my youngest memories of
riding the school bus with an entire secret stash of make-up that I’d borrowed from the Bradley sisters next door. I’d leave the house every day looking like
your average elementary school kid, and would arrive at school prepared in full for the Miss America Pageant.  Or
perhaps I owe it all to my grandmom, who used to revel in the glory of her weekly hair appointments and the nightly ritual of applying “cold cream” to her face.  I remember watching wide eyed as she would pile it on wondering what in the world kind of magic it
worked because her skin was absolutely, and truly flawless.  The cold cream probably led to the next
historical landmark in the beauty journey…  I suddenly became obsessed with searching people’s medicine
cabinets. (klepto anyone?) Anywhere I went, I excused myself to the bathroom to rummage through the medicine cabinet to see what beauty treasures were in store
for me, making mental notes of all of the things that were suddenly “necessary” on my beauty list. And finally, I probably owe some credit to my younger
sister, Katie, who unbeknownst to her was the subject of my endless “beauty school” experiments.  Let’s just
say she definitely endured one too many haircuts and her fair share of wardrobe malfunctions.  She’ll probably send
me the therapy bill.

My years as a professional cheerleader were also very
eye-opening to the world of beauty.
Suddenly I was exposed to photo shoots involving hair and make-up artists, stylists, proper lighting, airbrushing and everything that went into taking a simple photo and making it an incredible magazine spread.  Seeing the finished product of my first photo shoot was a pivotal moment for me. I felt glamorous and beautiful, but most of all, I felt encouraged.  Encouraged because I realized that the models in the magazines that I’d been looking at for years were yes, beautiful, but in no way were they perfect.  I realized that I and every other woman were just as beautiful and just learning to enhance that beauty would make all the difference!  The “model-like” beauty was suddenly so attainable and I was determined to learn how to do it, and to share the knowledge.

Fast forward to today.

I am your everyday woman, wife and mother of three trying to maintain the balance of career, marriage and home life.  While I am focused on beauty, I am also not a superhero and I work hard to maintain the connection of both “feeling” and “looking” beautiful.   Whether I am
lounging around in sweats (or on my fancier days my “lulu”) or getting all dolled up, applying my  products,
makeup, and sliding into something fabulous, my goal is to use everything that I know as the tools to stay true to my beauty.

Most days, you can still find me in the bathroom concocting my next beauty serum with the intensity of a biochemist.  My kids and husband are used to looking
for me there, and know what to expect when I am on a roll discovering the latest peel, laser treatments or skincare products.  I smile when my husband causally asks if he will find my DNA all over the house this week as I do my peel.  I smile because I am thankful that he appreciates my passion and encourages my desire to always know more.  I also smile because the more I know, the more I can share
with each of you.

My journey so far has been an exciting one (and quite
entertaining at times) but it is nowhere near over.  I’m just getting started, and am ready to share with
you!  So here we go, I’m diving head first into this and in typical Kelley style will probably crack my head
open or forget to put on a bating suit, but hey- I never claimed to be perfect, just beautiful
