Cancer Sucks, Donate A Wrinkle!

IMG_2012

There is hardly a person who has not been touched by breast cancer through personal experience, a family member, friend or colleague.  am fortunate enough to work with amazingly talented and passionate surgeons who every year donate their time & skills to an amazing cause!

Dr. Paul G. Ruff IV and Dr. Michael T. Somenek of Ruff Plastic Surgery in Washington, DC will host the Wrinkle Erase for the Cause on October 1, 2015 at their offices in D.C.’s West End at 2440 M Street, NW, Suite 200.  Wrinkle Erase for the Cause has raised $155,000 for donation over the past five years to benefit breast cancer research and reconstruction awareness.   Drs. Ruff and Somenek will once again be joined by Erwin Gomez of Karma Beauty Lounge in hosting this event.  Dr. Ruff was inspired by his many breast reconstruction patients, his mother, sister and mother-in-law who are all survivors.  Living in Pink, a local breast cancer charity started by Michele Conley, has been the primary beneficiary of the event.  Michele was a double breast cancer survivor who recently passed away in late 2014.  She remains a true inspiration to those whose lives have been touched by this disease.

This year’s event honors her legacy. WEFTC will run from 7:00am to 7:00pm on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Ruff Plastic Surgery, 2440 M Street, NW, Suite 200 Washington, DC  20037.

Refreshments and light fare will be served throughout the day.  The event is based around injections of the common wrinkle fighting treatments (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Juvederm, Restalyn, Radiesse).  If someone is considering one of these treatments, it is a perfect opportunity to donate a few wrinkles and see if the benefits of these treatments are right for oneself.  In the past, nearly half of the donors have been new to injectables as antiaging treatments.

Come join the doctors and staff at Ruff Plastic Surgery and donate a few wrinkles to help save a life.

It Takes A Village And A Magic Wand…

After attending an event this weekend and posting some pics on social media, I received so many compliments on my look that I decided I needed to share my tips! My tips, of course, being nothing short of magic! As a mom of 4 (oh and let’s also factor in my entire teenage son’s entourage – whom I love BTW) let’s just say I am not exactly primping and executing any sort of “style” on a daily basis. To paint a realistic picture, during the summer months with everyone home, I find myself throwing my hair up and living in my pjs/workout clothes most the day (I feel better at least acting like I am going to the gym.) There is most definitely no makeup, and if I’m lucky, I can score brushing my hair and getting my skincare regimen in with every bathroom break I take…. BUT… this weekend I really pulled out the Mommy Magic. They say it takes a village, but I say a magic wand too! This weekend I managed to pull it all together and I wanted to share exactly how I did that. You know me, always brutally honest.. I can’t have anyone thinking  I pulled a Beyoncé and “woke up like this”.  Just not the case 😉 so don’t let FaceLIES (my nickname for Facebook) fool ya – I had help!!! 🙂

Here I am with one of our Nurse Injectors at Ruff Plastic Surgery, Norah Gourlay – I am speaking from experience when I say Norah is an amazing Nurse Injector – she has performed Botox & Xeomin on me and I absolutely LOVE IT!! Feel free to e-mail me at Kelley@kelleyknows.com  any questions you might have, I would be happy to answer them 🙂 Check out Norah’s Facebook page here!

In addition to an awesome injector… a girls gotta have an amazing pair of lashes & makeup to accentuate her features – above are the lashes I sported Saturday night, which I purchased at CVS – super affordable at $5.00.

One of my favorite products from Tica Cosmetics is the Baked Blush and the color I can wear all year round is Honeywell.  For the lips, I have a major crush on the color Vintage – which is also versatile year round for me.

I wanted to post this pic above so you could see my airbrush tan I received at my favorite spot here in my neighborhood, Ninotch a urban retreat. I’ve been to a lot of places and Ninotch by far is my favorite – I am NEVER orange, stinky or streaky.  AND I also feel 5lbs lighter 🙂 always a BONUS!

OH MY! Botox & Blowouts: New Beauty Trend In Town

Hello Beauties!  Boy, does time fly, it’s February already AH …

I hope everyone is enjoying 2015 so far – I sure am!  It’s been super busy for me personally and professionally which  = good problems!   I continue to learn so much at Ruff Plastic Surgery.  We recently received a new laser and I AM IN LOVE with it! I will touch/share more on the new bundle of joy in a future post..  But first let me tell you about an event we had last week, BOTOX & BLOWOUTS at Bella Bethesda Salon.

By now you all should know that I am not shy with sharing my latest anti-aging obsessions but this one by far might be my latest fav! Time and time again I treat myself to blowouts & every 4 months I treat myself to Botox … BUT both at the same time in the same place is GENIUS!!! 2015 is about being efficient, right?! 😉

The concept  is to address your complete beauty needs in a one-stop shop. So me, Dr. Ruff & Dr. Somenek packed up the goods and made ourselves at home in an awesome premiere salon, Bella in downtown Bethesda.  We were  able to offer Botox and fillers like Juvederm, Voluma , Restylane Silk from our board-certified Plastic Surgeons & Nurse Practitioners and I was able to offer Skin Consultations as well as Chemical Peels & Clear & Brilliant Laser Treatments –all at the same time as a hair appointment.

This event was so successful and we received such positive feedback! We will be hosting Botox & Blowouts quarterly! Here are the top five reasons you can’t miss out…

1. Board Certified Plastic Surgeons Injectors

2. Premiere Stylist

3. Complimentary Skin Consultation

4. One Stop Shop

5. Get summer ready in style

Big D With A Touch Of B

I’m back… I missed you!

And recently, one of my best friends, Donald, came back too—self-proclaimed “Six-foot six and full of tricks” To those who don’t know Donald, he’s achieved a bit of “first name celebrity status” in these parts (much like Angelina or Brad has done worldwide, but not really). But for the past two years, Donald has been working in Africa on a military base. He has hardly ever complained about not having the luxuries from home. What he does miss, however, is one of the simple necessities of life —BOTOX! He’s getting by overseas. But like Samantha from “Sex in the City” once declared, “Nothing in life is guaranteed but Botox.”

And so, when a friend like Donald comes back to town, I can offer him a few key things… a good laugh, a respectable (but not great) glass of wine & info on where to get the BEST BOTOX in town!

Botox can be a bit of a taboo subject.—the cost, the effect, (the accusations?). But Taboo Shmaboo. I love Botox –

For these few reasons….

* It gives you a very natural look of being well rested and relaxed, especially when you find an injector who has a conservative and gentle touch -which I have found at Ruff Plastic Surgery  here in DC. Trust me. If I came out looking like one of the Bravo (deer in headlights) Housewives, then I’d be afraid of Botox too! But not to worry… Here’s how to test if you’re a candidate or not.  If when you’re in resting position, you have fine or deep lines on the forehead,  between the brows or around the crows, Botox will -when done right, addresses them.  Talk about a magic eraser! It truly does make you look rested –which we all want — and no longer looking mad or frustrated.

* Another reason I love Botox is that it doesn’t last forever. To really get a feel for the difference it can make, you can sample a splash of it here or there. You will soon discover the amazing results. Once injected, it takes 3-5 days to start working. And on average, it lasts 4 months. It takes effect slowly and then gradually fades away — keeping with the natural theme.

I look at Botox as a secret weapon to help keep my look “fresh.” As kids are adding up around this house, and I don’t foresee a long, relaxing nap anywhere in my near future, I rely on Botox to keep me looking well rested. I’m in my mid 30’s and I’m not trying to look younger, just fresh. I continue to take care of my skin with medical grade products, peels and occasional laser treatments. But 1 to 2 times a year, I will treat myself to a splash of BOTOX!

Check out Donald’s before & after pics below. He had Botox injected to 3 areas: forehead, crows and between the brows.

I will continue to share more before & afters here on the blog.

Stay tuned…
